In the tradition of such fab mockumentaries as THIS IS SPINAL TAP, WAITING FOR GUFFMAN, famous funny line movie and REAL LIFE, Griffin Dunne's LISA PICARD IS FAMOUS is a very funny parody of the New York acting scene. Dunne stars as Andrew, a documentarian following a young actress, Lisa Picard (coscreenwriter Laura Kirk), who is determined to become famous. Dunne intercuts scenes of Lisa famous funny line movie and her best friend, Tate Kelly/ Kelley (the character's name is spelled both ways in the film; the role is played by coscreenwriter Nat DeWolf), with comments on fame by such famous people as Buck Henry, Carrie Fisher, famous funny line movie and coproducer Fisher Stevens. As Lisa travels from audition to party (waiting for the new Melissa Gilbert television movie--in which she has an important scene--to air) famous funny line movie and Tate readies his one-man show, they bump into Sandra Bullock, Spike Lee, Charles Sheen, famous funny line movie and other famous people playing themselves. Meanwhile, Andrew keeps sticking his camera in a little too far, showing too much of the truth that he is after--and getting too involved in what is going on in front of the camera. In a marvelous move, Dunne casts L.M. Kit Carson as Andrew's hero, documentary filmmaker David Holzman; Carson first played Holzman in the seminal 1968 fake documentary DAVID HOLZMAN'S DIARY. Woody Allen's star-studded CELEBRITY skewers America's fascination with fame famous funny line movie and glamour. Kenneth Branagh stars as Lee Simon, a travel writer who also interviews celebrities when he's not working on his novel famous funny line movie and screenplay--or at least talking about writing them. When Robin starts working for Joe, she is responsible for overseeing the talent--the kind of people who regularly appear on such shows as JERRY SPRINGER, looking for their moment in the spotlight. Even a television preacher has religious groupies who yearn for autographs. It is interesting to note that Allen wrote famous funny line movie and directed CELEBRITY at a time when his own fame was reaching a crescendo because of his own personal problems, which became so much tabloid fodder; that is perhaps why he does not appear in the film, instead having Branagh speak the offbeat, cynical, funny lines that the Woodman himself usually delivers.
